March Units of Study:
Because we have had so many class periods cancelled, for one thing or another, each class seems to be at a different place in our units of study. All classes were instructed to some degree of the topic of influncers. Influnecers such as the media and the tricks the media plays on us to get us to purchase items. We looked at how family, peers and teachers help influence us in the choices we make as well. We looked at a decision making chart provided by the district curriculum, The Great Body Shop, as a way for students to begin to learn to make appropriate choices when called to do so. We learned that good decision making skills can help counter negative influences. We also used the Refusal Steps presented in The Great Body Shop curriculum as students learned how to get out of situations that do not line up with the correct decision for them to make.
Kindergarten and first grade classes, looked at what a visit to the doctor would look like and how students can assist a doctor when they need to visit one. Several tools were introduced to better familiarize students with what to expect at a doctor office visit.
First grade took a look at emotions focusing on the emotions of happiness and sadness and how to react appropriately when our emotions lead us away from being happy.
Second grade looked at the concept of feelings and the emotion of fear or being afraid and how to deal with fears and treat others who are afraid.
